Water pollution
has been a problem for a very long time. There are many different kinds of
water pollution. Such as human and animal wastes, toxic
industrial chemicals, agricultural residues, oil and heat. Since the beginning of civilization people have used our
waters to dump their trash in. Rivers, streams, canals, lakes, and oceans are
currently used as vessel for every
imaginable kinds of pollution. Lakes are especially polluted because they
cannot cleanse themselves as rapidly as rivers or oceans does.
Polluted water may look clean or dirty, but it always contains germs, chemicals or other materials
that can cause illnesses or death.
A common kind of water pollution is the
effect caused by heavy concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorous, which are
used by plants for growth.
Another way in which Water may get
polluted is by sedimentation, which is the result of poor soil conservation
practices. Sediment fills water-supply reservoirs and clogs power turbines and
irrigation pumps.
Lastly, degree of treatment and control of waste, disposal
and use of adequately treated waste water, must be based on a consideration with
all the technical factors of each drainage basin, in order to prevent any
further contamination or harm to the environment.
